Ashok Chakra Awardee - Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani, Bar to Sena Medal

Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani, Bar to Sena Medal is an Ex terrorist who turned back to the mainstream and braved to join the Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles 34th Batallion has laid down his life fighting for the nation.

Since Lance Naik Wani who hails from Jammu and Kashmir joined the Indian Army, he was very brave and dared to take part in numerous life-threatening operations in the J&K state. He has engaged in many gunfights with terrorists and for his undeterred morale for dangerous missions, he was awarded Sena Medal twice by the Indian Army. 

On a fateful day, 25th November 2018, Indian Army has received an intelligence report that there are heavily armed six terrorists hiding in a house in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir state. On receiving the information regarding terrorists, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani's team was tasked to block the route through which terrorists may escape.

 

Well knowing about the presence of heavily armed terrorists, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani has positioned himself within striking distance. The terrorists started heavy gunfire to escape. During the heavy gunfire, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani has received multiple bullets but he successfully killed a terrorist who was later identified as most wanted district commandant of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

During the encounter, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani has caught hold of a terrorist who was escaping from a window and killed him with bare hands. Also, he injured another terrorist and with multiple bullet injuries, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani has martyred.

For the display of unparallel bravery and supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani in the line of duty, Indian Government has conferred Ashok Chakra posthumously to Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani.
