MoUs signed by India and Iran February 2018 Current Affairs

There are total 9 Memorandums of Understanding / agreements inked by the governments of India and Iran on 17th February 2018 in India. All the MoUs and agreements have been inked by both the countries during the Iran's President Hassan Rouhani visit to India. Here is the complete list of all agreements that are signed by India and Iran. From current affairs perspective, these MoUs and agreements are important.

1. Agreement on taxation

India and Iran has signed an agreement to avoid Double Taxation and also to prevent Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on Income. This is an important agreement by which both countries will eliminate burden of double taxation and thus will get more investments.

2. MoU on Exemption of Visa Requirement between India and Iran

A Memorandum of Understanding has been inked by India and Iran government on exemption of Visa requirement for Diplomatic passport holders. Through this MoU, diplomatic passport holders of India and Iran can travel in Iran and India without a Visa.

3. Exchange of Instrument of Ratification of Extradition Treaty

Through the Exchange of Instrument of Ratification of Extradition Treaty, both India and Iran has brought the Extradition Treaty that has been signed by the both countries in 2008 into effect. In simple words, now defaulters can be extradited easily.

4. Lease Contract for Shahid Beheshti Port- Phase 1 of Chabahar

India and Iran government has signed a lease contract for Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar. The lease was signed between Port and Maritime Organisation (PMO) and Iran and India Ports Global Limited (IPGL). As per the signed lease, a part of the multipurpose and container Terminal has been leased out for one and half years.

5. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine

MoU on Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine has been signed by India and Iran to develop and strengthen the following traditional systems of medicine.

  • Teaching and practice
  • Drugs and drug-less therapies
  • supply of of medicine materials
  • supply of medicine documents
  • exchange of experts for training of practitioners, paramedics, scientists, teaching professionals and students
  • provisioning of scholarships

6. MoU on Trade Remedy Measures

MoU on the establishment of an Expert Group on Trade Remedy Measures signed by India and Iran to promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest. It will mainly focus on anti-dumping and counterveiling duty.

7. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors

The MoU was singed by India and Iran which will enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of agrivulture and allied sectors. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors will focus on the following.

  • Horticulture machinery
  • Post harvest technology
  • Plant quarantine measures
  • Soil conservation
  • Seed Technology
  • Livestock improvement
  • Dairy development

8. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine

The MoU on Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine pitches for cooperation on pooling of technical, scientific, financial and human resources. It will also focus on research and training of medical doctors and other health professionals.

9. MoU on Postal Cooperation

MoU on Postal Cooperation will focus mainly on exchanging of e-commerce / logistics services experience, knowledge and technology. Also it will constitute a group of experts to study the possibility of using air and surface transit capacities of both countries.

With 9 MoUs and agreements that are signed by India and Iran during the visit of Iran President, it is expected that the relationship between both the countries will be strengthened.
