How to join NDA and NA

NDA & NA Examination overview

NDA & NA exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission of India twice in a year. NDA & NA examination is the gateway for candidates who have passed 10+2 and for students studying in second year of 10+2 to become permanent commissioned officers in Indian Army, Air Force and Indian Navy.   Every year UPSC releases notification of NDA & NA exam in June and December months. One month time will be there for eligible candidates to apply for the examination. Earlier, applications of NDA exam were available in post offices of Indian cities. But now USC is accepting only online applications from eligible candidates. After last date of application forms as notified, UPSC will check all filled up forms and eligible candidates will get admit cards for written examination.

Eligibility criteria of NDA & NA examination of UPSC

Nationality Applicants should be Indian citizens. Gender Applicants should be male. Marital status Applicants should be unmarried. Qualification 12th class with any stream for Indian Army. For Air Force and Navy, applicants should have Maths and Physics in 10+2 level.

Scheme of NDA & NA examination

There will be two exams conducted as part of NDA & NA examination of UPSC. First paper will be of Mathematics and second paper will be General Ability Test (GAT). Mathematics paper will carry maximum of 300 marks and General Ability Test will carry 600 marks. There will be 2 Hrs and 30 Minutes time available to candidates appearing in NDA & NA examination for each paper. Thus, total 900 marks will be there in written papers of NDA examination. SSB interview will carry 900 marks.   NDA & NA exam papers will consist of all objective type questions. All questions of Mathematics paper and Part B questions of General Ability Test will be set in Hindi as well as English. Applicants will not be allowed to have the help of a scribe. UPSC has full rights to set qualifying marks or cut off marks for shortlisting candidates. Calculators and logarithmic table books are not allowed during the examination of NDA & NA.

NDA & NA exam syllabus

As NDA & NA exam is divided into two parts viz., Mathematics and General Ability Test. Both Mathematics and GAT question paper syllabus consists of all topics of Tenth class, Intermediate first year and Intermediate Second year of NCERT standard. Syllabus of NDA & NA is very vast but if a student studies carefully, he will easily pass NDA & NA examination.
